Biography /自己紹介
Tama was born and raised in Tokyo. But what was etched in her mind was "Tono," where her mother was born and raised. Tono, a region with unique folklore as the keynote of its culture, was enough to instill in Tama, as a child, a sense of "something" that she could not feel in Tokyo, and a sense of causality from her ancestors that has continued unbroken in her veins. Tama began to express these sensations in the form of art when she got married and had children, spending almost all of her time with them.
Today, Tama is the mother of four children, all of whom seem to melt away from the boundaries of their "surroundings," including other people, society, and the natural environment, and enter into their own worlds. To adults, this is "fantasy" or "imagination," but Tama felt that this world is an undeniable "fact" for the children.And it is in this "fact" that "something overwhelming" exists. Through art, Tama creates a place where perspecters themselves can feel the power to sense that existence, and where they can feel that existence. By doing so, she is questioning how to deal with the "loneliness" that is with us as long as we live, or to put it another way, how to question our sense of "what we are not," such as others, society, and the unseen.
She is currently working mainly with digital painting, but She also paints on canvas upon request.
玉シズクの作品たちに通底するテーマは、「I’m alone, but not lonely」。玉は、生きるということが孤独と背中合わせであっても、生を脅かすほどの絶対的な孤独感を和らげることができるとすれば、それは「圧倒的な何か」の存在があるからだと信じている。
玉は、東京に生まれ、東京で育った。だが、彼女に刻まれていたのは、彼女の母が生まれ育った「遠野」である。遠野は、ユニークな民話を文化の基調にもつ地域で、東京では感じられない「何ものか」の存在と脈々と続く先祖からの因果を、幼少期のタマに植え付けるのに十分な場所だった。玉がその感覚をアートとして表現するようになったきっかけは、結婚して子供を授かり、1日のほぼ全ての時間を子供と過ごすことになったことにある。
現在玉は4人の子の母であるが、どの子供も他者や社会、自然環境などの“周囲”との境界が溶けているように、自分の世界に入り込むことがある。その様子は大人にとっては「空想」「想像」であるが、その世界は、子供にとっては、紛れもない「事実」だと玉は感じた。そしてその「事実」にこそ、「圧倒的な何か」が存在している。玉は、アートを通して、その存在を感じる力をperspecter自が感じたり、その存在を感じられるような場所を創出する。そしてそのことで、人々が生きていく限り共にある「孤独」と付き合い方、言葉を変えると他者・社会・見えないもののといった「自分ではないもの」への自身への感覚を問い直している。
現在玉はデジタルで絵を描くことを主としているが、リクエストに応じて、それをキャンバスへ描くこともしている。
The theme that runs through all of Tama's works is "I'm alone, but not lonely.“ Tama believes that even though living is a solitary experience,
the presence of "something overwhelming" can alleviate the feeling of absolute loneliness that threatens one's life.
